About the 40' Platform
A forty-foot load bed, again with no structure whatsoever above deck level.
It takes very long and very heavy cargo that no enclosed or walled unit could accept — the sort of piece that would otherwise need break-bulk handling. Loading is unobstructed from above and from all four sides.
Stowage is engineered per shipment. The cargo usually needs an approved lashing plan, and its dimensions determine where on the vessel it can be carried.
What it carries
How it is built
- A bare load bed — steel decking over a heavy longitudinal underframe — with no walls, ends or roof at all.
- Corner castings at the ISO positions, which is what still makes it a container rather than simply a flat bed.
- Lashing points along the full length of both side rails.
- A steel frame with a wooden floor structure and no walls at the sides or ends, which is what allows very heavy weights to be concentrated on a small area.
- Lashing rings are set into the side rails, rated to 3,000 kg.
- A gooseneck tunnel at each end.
Why it is used
- No structure above deck level means no height restriction whatsoever, and cargo may overhang on every side.
- The most accommodating unit available for genuinely out-of-gauge pieces.
- Loading is unobstructed from above and from all four sides.
What to check before booking
- Cargo is entirely unprotected and takes the full weather and sea spray.
- Shipment normally requires an approved stowage and lashing plan, and out-of-gauge charges apply.
